Yeah, so it's kind of empty here

Mostly because I have another, much, much more personal blog that I have been writing on this whole time. But, if you're coming here it's because you've seen the goodbye post, and I appreciate that. If it wasn't clear, it wasn't my idea to leave, what with the fact that I burned all my lobbying bridges and did interviews and whatever and have no idea what to do now. It's been a fucked up day.

I'm sorry to see that you have left. As a conservative Republican-albeit a very gay one-I've always enjoyed your writing. Reading Wonkette has always been a blast for me...or usually my positions being blasted. In either case, it has helped me endure the sewer that is our body politic. I hope you will let us know where you are writing in the future. We’d hate to miss you.

Best wishes for future successes!

This SUCKS. So, so sorry for you. But I'm sure you'll bounce back.

I mirror the feelings of those responding to your g'bye post: wtf? WTF?
This is terrible. Terrible. Your contributions were the only thing keeping me reading wonkette lately. I will be graciously and anxiously awaiting further updates here, on Jezebel, bathroom walls... seriously.
I've very much enjoyed reading your commentary. Having a drink in your honor tonight.

I'm very sorry that things didn't work out for you at Wonkette. Your posts were a joy to read, and more than once made me snort my coffee. (a true test of written humor, imho.)

Please keep posting here--I've already bookmarked--as your talent will surely take you far. Best of luck.

I did come here because of your post at 'ette. I have not decided if I will return there. For the record, you had made me look forward to checking in there for the first time since the original 'ette left. I'll watch here and hope for the best. I bailed from DC (and law) and have lived to tell of it. I look forward to seeing where you land...

This fucking sucks. Please give the full story at some point so at least my rage won't feel so vaguely defined. Until then, I stand by my "algorithm and sockful of oranges" theory, because I don't want to believe actual humans made this decision.

Fuck.

:( I reiterate, I am sorry this happened to you. And I'm glad you have your own private blog. I hope you get back on your feet.

MOTHERFUCKER! Oh, Megan. I love your posts. I am distressed to read about you not being able to get a lobbying gig again. Damn.

Shocked by your post at Wonkette. You were definitely the most interesting writer over there. Gah. After they moved Pareene, axed Ken, brought in J.A. Clarke, got rid of J.A. Clarke, rehired Ken as the editor - I began to get the feeling Gawker Media is run by children.

You'll land on your feets, though. You're smart and crafty.

Who knows? Maybe this here blog may become the next Kos. (Except, you know, much less lame and preachy.) I would be on board for such a plan. (In which case, User ID #00001, bitchez!)

But, of course, you have the whole rent/mortgage to worry about. So the whole "this blows" side of things kind of dominates right about now. I'm sorry for that.

I don't know what else to say.

Not fair.

The joy I felt when everybody's favorite anonymous lobbyist was unmasked was quickly subsumed by the giggles your quality posts induced.

And the frequency! I can't forget the frequency.

Unlike your predecessors, I could refresh the page at unreasonably frequent intervals, and a new post would actually be ready for my greedy consumption. When I run out of beer, I shut the fridge, and then I open it again in the hope that more beer will magically appear (maybe in the crisper?), except YOU actually produced results. Stupid refrigerator.

The War on Paultards was brilliant. Building a coalition with that conservative site was even better.

You'll be missed. I'm drinking in your honor right now. Please also drink in your honor. Drink for an editrix unfairly stripped of her trix, people. Stupid Gawker.

Whoever is reading this thread should head back over to Megan's swan song at Wonkette. We are organizing. We are protesting. We will take back what is ours.

there's something cheesy here about one door closing and another opening. i know how lame this town can be and how difficult it is for freelancers that don't necessarily want to write puff pieces on the latest go-to salon in McLean for Sunday Styles or the Washingtonian or whomever.

But you'll land on your feet. In the meantime, if you need a drink, your DC-based fan club which I just nominated myself the leader of (the rest of them are no good drunks) will spring for your bar tab(s).

Now I guess the only Gawker property worth reading is Jezebel. As a gay man, I don't need anymore ghettoization, but that's the way its going to be I guess.

Megan,

This is "EWALDA". I'm very distressed by this turn of events. I thought you were really making a positive difference over there. Yours were the posts I really looked forward to. I was a lurker over at the W site since the Ana days, though I didn't start commenting until last Spring. I'm not sure if I want to go back there anymore, after this.

Can't say anything coherent. Still pissed.

megan - i already gushed my appreciation on the other thread. i hope that you can tell us at least a little of what happened or why you were let go.

Jaime said...

That's fucked. I've loved your writing. Your piece on the photos of the Bhutto assassination was powerful and dead-on. I hope you keep writing here.

lvanhine1 said...

hey megan, this really sucks. Homofascist gave me the heads up so he could coordinate a 'rally', but the fact is, there isn't a lot you can do when they decide to 'change directions.' you didn't get any other feedback? But hey, small comfort, but last I looked there were 159 messages and counting, not one of them telling you to fuck off so what does that say? I wish I had 159 friends/readers!

SnowLeopard said...

Consistently thoughtful and intelligent commentary is very hard to find on the internet, so please keep it up. I was a loyal reader at that other site and will now tune in here.

This just blows. You were the first one since Ana to be both a Wonk and an ette. Fuck Gawker with Huckabee's flagpole.

You rock and will continue to rock! I am already racking my brain of my DC connections to hook you up with some employment come Tuesday, the day after LBJ Day (whoops, MLK Day).

Oh, honey, this is awful. I've loved your writing and your moral fierceness.

My mom & dad live in the MD and VA suburbs, respectively, and they have lots of room, so if you need a place to crash, let me know.

sorry to hear about getting fucked over by nick. i hope you keep writing o i can keep reading.

if i was in dc i'd buy you a drink. but i am in new york, so if you like, i'll go press my asscheeks up to the window of gawker hq tomorrow.

I'm so bummed out. I've been reading Wonkette for a couple years now - but never commented, because well, so many others do such a fine job. But I just wanted to say that this sucks, you're the best, and if I were in DC I'd totally buy you a drink or seven.

You're a talented writer with one of the truest voices on the entire intertubes.

That's no bullshit...if anything, it's envy. And you are so young to be so good!!

You'll be fine. Great talent can't be held back and always finds it's place.

Holly said...

As a lady who likes the men, snark and politics, you were the perfect addition to a floundering Wonkette (I miss Pareene.) When I move to DC sometime this year, I'm buying you a drink. See you at Jezebel.

whatsername said...

Wonkette won't be the same without you Megan.

You can at least take comfort in knowing that Wonkette is left with a really pissed-off constituency!

If wishes were horses, your devoted readers would have gotten you a whole pony farm by now.

Tom Automaton said...

Just another comment to let you know that I really, REALLY enjoyed your writing, and thought that you and Greg really made Wonkette fun to read again. I can only imagine how much it sucks to change your life around (from anon. lobbyist), throw everything out there on the table, and have someone take the table away.

I know I don't know you, but I feel like I do. I'm sure you'll succeed at whatever you try to do, and, if not, hey, there's always marketing.

Aw man, I'm sorry to hear that. Hope to catch up with you on Jezebel and wherever else you write in the future. I have a feeling that you'll be doing extremely well. Best wishes to you!

I, for one, will miss you at wonkette. I think they made a mistake in your case, and they will have a hard time, etc.....
At least they let you say goodbye.

I'm not a commenter over at Wonkette, so it's killing me that I can't express how frustrated I was when I saw your good-bye. I've only recently returned to Wonkette & it's b/c how great your posts are. I can't tell you how many of them that I've forwarded on to friends. I'm going to miss your unique perspective that always made me simultaneous think about an issue differently & laugh out loud.

Good luck & I have no doubt you'll find a place worthy of your skills soon! (And the masses will follow you there… I hope it at least feels comforting to know you are so loved!)

This is seriously messed up. What the fuck was Ken thinking? Can you please tell the full story at some point so we know what the hell happened? You were the best thing to happen to that site in a long time. Go public with the details!

This is a huge bummer, and I'm really sorry, because your posts were my the best on Wonkette, and also because I know how hard it blows to be fired, I get fired all the time. It will turn into something better, it almost always does.
